To Kindle or Not to Kindle...

that is the question...

I was very against this little devise at first. I love books, I love the feel of them and of course the gorgeous covers. In my mind using a Kindle you would lose all of the ambiance. I mean I can't really picture sitting curled up by the fire with a cup of tea and instead of a book you have a Kindle in your hand. However; with all this being today I broke down and purchased the little beast and I'm anxious to get it and start messing around with it. To be truthful the motivating factor was the lack of room I have to store any more books. I'm beginning to feel like a used book store.

I would love to hear any of your thoughts positive or negative about The Kindle. I look forward to it.

  1. I still can't make myself break down and buy one. Like you, I love the feel of the paper as I turn the pages. I love the smell of books. Let me know what you think after you try it out.

  2. I also love the feel and smell of books, and all of my favorites will remain in my book collection. However, my Kindle is fabulous! I love being able to download books quickly. I also love being able to download previews to see if the book is of interest to me. I've had my Kindle for about two months now, and I have 453 books ready for me to read! There's no way I'd be able to lug around that many books! I like that I'm able to read multiple books at one time. Some of the books I've "purchased" are out of print. I've only paid for about 10 of my books... the rest were freebies!

  4. Diane~I agree about luggin around the books and being able to review the books first! So many times I have purchased a book, read the 1st chapter and regretted the purchase, this way I can avoid that. Thanks for all your comments.

  5. I think there are both postive and negative aspects to owning a kindle. One obvious positive to the kindle would be, like some of you have already mentioned, not having to lug around the book. Say your going a long road trip or some long vacation. You don't want to carry around a bunch of books that will weigh your suitcase down. Therefore, by owning the kindle you can have your entire library on one devise.
Personally I doubt I will ever break down and buy one. I love the smell of a new book and flipping through each page. Also, I like walking into my room and seeing all my beuatiful books neatly lined up on my bookshelves. It really depends on the person if the kindle is right for them or not. :)

  6. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle. I actually have the very first one that came out and still use it non-stop. It has never replaced actual books, but it is in the rotation and gives me the freedom to travel and to get lost in a story more than worrying about a giant chunkster I can hardly hold onto or pack around. Dive in! I'll be eager to see if you end up liking it. :)

  7. I received a Kindle for Christmas and it is really fun to use and easy figure out.
I doubt it will ever replace the books in my home I will still purchase my favorite Authors such as Philippa Gregory and so forth in Book format especially if I have several in the series already. The Kindle will alow me to take more than one book when we go camping and out of town. You can also sample books that you are thinking about purchasing before doing so to see if you really want to spend the money on it.

  8. I'm on the fence about this one, too. Like others have mentioned, I just love the feel of books. However, it must be very convenient and novel to have many books on one small device.
